There are obviously a lot of readers out there. So! What do you read? I wouldn't mind a good recommendation for a murder/mystery/forensic author like Patricia Cornwell.
Here's my list of books and authors:
The Eight by Katherine Neville The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King Dark Tower series by King To Kill A Mockingbird From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz (AWESOME)
Authors in general: Patricial Cornwell Sue Grafton Dean Koontz some Stephen King Mario Puzo Michael Connelly John Grisham

Hmm, note to self: Don't raid Mireille's library.
Currently reading: Anne McAffrey - Tower & The Hive series Got queued: New Pern book, by Todd McAffrey (This should be interesting).
Just finished: Bunch of (Jeff?) Pohl that I borrowed. My father-in-law has a lot of sci-fi, most of it quite good.
Orson Scott Card (Enders Game, woo) Robert Heinlein
Margeret Weisman & Tracy Hicks (DragonLance) Robert Jordan (Wheel Of Time) J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter)
That's what comes to mind right now, anyway.

My shelf contains a lot of Brian Jacques, A little Anne McCaffrey, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, Michael Crichton, AA Milne (I mean come on), and then random academic things (classical history and philosophy, political and economic theory, that sort of thing.)

Miri, check out Jeffery Deaver and James Patterson. I frequently read graphic novels. Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis and a bunch of other authors are teh goodness. [Shaddup, I know I'm a university student. ] There's a lot of good detective fiction in Russian, so I hone my language skills and get some enjoyment out of that too. And yeah... sf/mystery/horror classics are a must.

I've read some James Patterson. He's sort of hit and miss with me, the stories are great but I find his characters annoying. Just once, I'd like to see Alex Cross fart or think ONE impure thought. I tried Sandra Brown and was turned off by the blend of a good mystery and her attempt at the romance genre. I dunno. I'm the sort who blunders into a love scene and usually regret it. Kind of like Cross, I'd love to see the heroine roll over after explosive sex and say...
... "So you, uh, wanna sandwich? Cuz I'm in the mood for one."

*prepares to show age*
Asimov Clarke Heinlein Tolkein Adams (started reading him after I first heard Hitchhiker's on the radio) Andre Norton Ann McCaffrey and so on...
Will usually let a book sit for a few months, then read it again

Note to self: Raid Catrina's house. When done, look at her library.

Muah. Maybe someday I'll pimp my book. You know, I just gotta finish it and all. I think it'd be worth a lifetime of hustling just to see it in Barnes & Noble. Even if it's under local authors only, or in the $1 bin. Hey, I'll take a dollar.

$1, eh? 10c goes to the store, 80c goes to the publisher for covering initial outlay, 9c covers shipping and handling, and the 1c gets lost. ;-)

Fear the combined might of the RetroMUD RP Board. If you don't publish the book we'll.. we'll.. write stories about the publisher being magically transported to the Retro universe, and being farmed by uncaring newbies, constantly being repopped with different align to be struck down with each guilds signature attacks.
Actually, that sounds kinda good.
