It always sorta boggles me to find out that people are surprised to find out Orson Scott Cards religious/political beliefs. I mean, he made no secret of being a Mormon, and they tend to have fairly extreme beliefs, for one. Huhwha? *has no clue what Lac is talking about*

I mean, he made no secret of being a Mormon, and they tend to have fairly extreme beliefs, for one. And even more so, there are religious themes in pretty much all of his books, but they just aren't obvious. I still like his books though, but I could care less what he thinks as a human being. I had have people tell me "OH I don't read his books any more, I found out his political/religious views", and one of his books I read recently focused around a Mormon society surviving after a world war, but.. so what? Read Robert Heinlein's books some time. He had definate ideas about religion and society, and wasn't afraid to base his books in his ideal world.

Molalzsath, Lac: most people, me included, find "definite ideas" [nice way to put it, btw] more palatable when those are closer to their own ideas. Thus for me Heinlein >> Card; might be the other way around for someone who identifies as Christian. To me, Card's books are well-written and thoroughly enjoyable, as long as I don't consider the implications of his worldview. [Would you believe that for the longest time I didn't see anything religion-related in Narnia? I'm a blissfully ignorant atheist. ] Also, I might be mistaken, but AFAIK Heinlein never said anything about criminalizing homosexual behaviors. To me that's another point in his favor. [If you want to debate it, let's switch to PMs or something... this is misc news after all ]

In his later works (from Time Enough for Love on,) it was pretty clear that Heinlein didn't care who slept with who (or how many.) Prostitutes had celebrity status, bordellos were treated as nightclubs..... I want to be a Howard!
